At Front Street Optometry, we are always looking for ways to provide our patients with the most advanced technology available. In February 2026, we introduced Ultra Wide-Field Retinal Imaging to our clinic to enhance our comprehensive eye examinations and allow us to detect eye diseases earlier and more accurately.
This advanced technology allows us to see much more of the retina than traditional imaging methods — helping protect your vision for the long term.
Ultra Wide-Field Retinal Imaging is a state-of-the-art technology that captures a high-resolution image of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye responsible for vision.
Traditional retinal imaging typically captures 30–50 degrees of the retina. Ultra wide-field imaging can capture up to 200 degrees in a single image, allowing your optometrist to examine over 80% of the retina at once.
This wider view allows us to evaluate areas of the retina that were previously difficult to visualize without dilation.
Many eye diseases develop silently and without early symptoms. By capturing detailed images of your retina, we can detect early signs of eye disease before vision is affected.
Ultra wide-field imaging helps us monitor and detect conditions such as:
Early detection allows for earlier treatment, better monitoring, and improved long-term outcomes for vision.
Adding this technology to your comprehensive eye exam provides several important advantages:
Because we can visualize more of the retina, subtle peripheral changes can be detected earlier than with traditional imaging.
Your images are saved securely in your chart, allowing your optometrist to compare year-to-year changes in your eye health.
While dilation is still recommended in certain situations, ultra wide-field imaging allows us to evaluate the retina in greater detail without dilation for many patients.
Seeing your own retinal images helps patients better understand their eye health and any conditions that may need monitoring.
At Front Street Optometry, we believe that a comprehensive eye exam should include a detailed evaluation of both vision and ocular health. Ultra wide-field retinal imaging is an important tool that helps us provide the most thorough assessment possible.
This technology is particularly valuable for patients with:
Your eyes deserve the best technology available. By incorporating Ultra Wide-Field Retinal Imaging into our exams, we are able to provide more comprehensive care, earlier detection of disease, and better long-term monitoring of your eye health.
If you are due for your next eye exam, we would be happy to show you this technology and explain your retinal images in detail.
