I am over the age of 40, am I a candidate for contact lenses?

Many patients over 40 successfully wear contact lenses. With today’s multifocal and specialty lens options, age alone does not prevent comfortable lens wear.
We assess eye health, prescription, and lifestyle to determine the right option, including lenses designed for reading support or unique corneal shapes. A consultation will help determine whether contact lenses are a good fit.

Do you fit custom contact lenses?

Yes. We provide custom contact lens fittings tailored to individual eye shape, prescription, and visual needs. This includes multifocal and scleral lens options designed for more complex prescriptions or corneal conditions.

When should I bring in my child for their first appointment?

A child’s first eye exam is recommended between six and nine months of age, with additional exams at age three and before starting school. Early evaluation supports healthy visual development from the start.

What happens during my comprehensive eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam includes a detailed assessment of both vision and overall eye health. We evaluate prescription, screen for common conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, and use advanced imaging technology to examine the retina in depth.
Tools such as retinal photography and Optical Coherence Tomography allow us to establish a baseline and monitor subtle changes over time. We also assess for signs of broader health concerns that may first appear in the eyes.
If needed, we coordinate referrals to trusted ophthalmologists for further evaluation or surgical consultation.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

Please bring a valid health card, a list of current medications, and your existing glasses. If you wear contact lenses, bring those as well.
You may also wish to bring sunglasses, as dilating drops are sometimes used during the exam and can cause temporary light sensitivity.

How often should I get a comprehensive eye exam?

For healthy adults, an eye exam is typically recommended every two years, or more frequently if managing an eye condition.
Adults over 65 are encouraged to schedule annual exams to monitor for age-related changes. Children should have their first exam between six and nine months of age, another between two and five years old, and yearly after starting school.
Your optometrist may recommend a different schedule based on individual eye health needs.

How do I make an appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled by calling during regular business hours or by using the online booking tool at any time. If calling outside of business hours, leave a message and a member of the team will return your call promptly.

How long will my comprehensive eye exam take?

A comprehensive eye exam typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. Please allow additional time for paperwork, billing, or a frame consultation if needed.

Does OHIP cover the cost of my comprehensive eye exam?

OHIP covers routine eye exams for patients under 20 and over 65. Coverage may also apply for patients between 20 and 65 with specific medical eye conditions.

Do you offer direct billing? What companies do you direct bill?

We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers, including Blue Cross, Manulife, OTIP, Green Shield, Canada Life, Sun Life, Industrial Alliance, and RWAM Insurance.
If your provider is not listed, please contact our team to confirm whether direct billing is available.
